The Vascular Research Initiatives Conference and over 25 years of conversations on the science of vascular disease
The Vascular Research Initiatives Conference (VRIC) is an annual conference established in 1986. This conference has successfully provided a forum for the presentation and discussion of high-quality innovative and relevant research related to the scientific underpinnings of vascular surgery. We have accomplished this by bringing young and more accomplished vascular surgeon researchers together with a broad representation of other high-caliber vascular biologists. The VRIC provides a unique venue for the vascular surgery community to showcase research produced by vascular surgeon scientists—a group of physicians with an e...

Vascular surgery: What increases the flow of students to the speciality?
CONCLUSIONS: A one-day conference can significantly impact students' perception especially when there is a lack of exposure within the undergraduate curriculum. This course helped to increase positive perception and dispute negative misconceptions about the speciality. The simulation workshops held at this conference increased students' confidence and awareness of relevant surgical skills. This conference provided a unique experience that positively impacted and inspired students and thus served as an important supplement to core medical curriculum. For as long as I can remember, at every company meeting I’ve ever been to, the topic of off-label promotion is always covered.  Whether it was new-hire orientation, a national sales meeting, or some other large commercial event, the dissemination of off-label information was always presented as not only a fireable offense, but something that could get you thrown in jail.  C.R. The Year in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia: Selected Highlights from 2012
Cardiothoracic and vascular critical care has emerged as a subspecialty due to procedural breakthroughs, an aging population, and a multidisciplinary collaboration. This subspecialty now has a dedicated professional society, recently published guidelines, and plans for standardized certification. This paradigm shift represents a major collaboration opportunity for our specialty. The rise of evidence-based perioperative practice has produced a culture of large trials in our specialty to search for solutions to the challenging outcome questions. Besides the growth in the development of evidence, the consensus conference form...

Panel composition and disparities in the topics of presentation in vascular surgery conferences
CONCLUSIONS: Significant disparities persist in the topics presented and in panel composition suggesting potential areas for improvement in equity. Further study should focus on evaluating trends in the training level of the presenter and the topics presented, and assessing parity in structural factors that impact research presentation opportunities.PMID:36708188 | DOI:10.1177/17085381231154343
